Review – New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
I got lucky. And giddy and silly all at the same time.
I felt like the folks working the Hachette Book Group USA booth at The Stacks – 2006 ALA Annual Conference Exhibition thought I should get a life. But I was so happy to score an Advance Reading Copy of New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer, that I proudly proclaimed to them, “OK, I can go home now!” I had hoped to find this copy during my visit to New Orleans and now that I had I didn’t think any other event at conference could top it.
Nothing else did.
Oh sure, I have blogged about all the cool stuff I saw and heard those five days and believe me I was thrilled many times over. But I have been waiting for this book ever since reading Meyer’s Twilight after finding that advance copy at ALA Chicago 2005.
New Moon did not let me down. In fact, it expands on the vampire story and draws new conflicts into Bella and Edward’s relationship. With love this strong, how do you live with difficult choices? What kinds of love are the most sustaining? Can you really go home again?
I love the contrasts of hot versus cold, dark versus light, and puberty versus maturity. I want to know the answers to questions about ancient legends and mythical monsters, impossible fairytales and absolute truths, magic and ghost stories.
I cannot wait for Bella to help me figure those out.

I got my copy at the American Library Association conference. Most publishers make their advance copies available to reviewers and book buyers in hopes of favorable pre-pub reviews.
There is really alot of interest in New Moon. This review has gotten almost over 400 hits on this blog alone!

Hey Blue Bird, No “New Moon” does not come out next year, it comes out this year. it comes out September The 6th or The 9th coz i went to k-mart and asked, and thats what the lady said, and dont worry i live in Australia 2, so there ya go…IM SO EXCITED!!
I was devastated when Borders told me that New Moon was not available until Sept. 6th. You can only guess my joy over finding it in store Aug. 13 after I say that I read all 500+ pages in under four hours. I have only four words… Amazing… Romantic…Breath Taking.
OMG! I got the book on this past sunday…All i can say is WOW! I would not put the book down. After i finished reading it my friend and i talked about it on the phone for about 3 hours…Yes i know…obsessed. I hope they get a PERFECT Edward for the role. Otherwise they will have very upset fans.

I am totally and completely in love with these books. I constantly try to imagine myself as isabella. New Moon broke my heart and patched it up all in one. I cried, i laughed, i yelled, and i screamed. As i neared the end of the book i didn’t want to read ne more bcuz i didn’t want it to end, but i had to read on to find out wat happens. I can’t wait till next summer when eclipse comes out but i am way more excited to see if Midnight Sun makes it to the shelves.

i know this probably does’t matter but henry cavill is SO HOT!when i picture Edward henry always comes to mind especially when he acted in the count of monte cristo.if twilight does become a movie ,i gotta say i’d be pretty pissed if anyone less hot than him gets cast as edward.

Twilight and New Moon Are in my top 5 of greatest books ever. I cannot wait untill the 3rd one comes out. I stayed up till 4 in the morning reading new moon. I do want them to make a movie but at the same time i dont want them to screw anything up! (which they probably will if they do)
I felt so Sorry for Jacob at the end of book 2. I hope he finds someone else to love. I seriosuly dont think i can wait till next year for book 3!!! Its gonna be sooooo good! (rocks back and forth and starts to Hyperventilate)

This book has become my life…… when i am sitting in my classes, all i can think about is coming home and reading to see what happens next…. Im almost done with New Moon. How many more of these books will there be? this journey cannot stop, WRITE TILL YOU CANT WRITE NO MORE!
This book was the best book this year. When i first started reading twilight, i was excited to find out that another one was coming out. i was anxious ALL YEAR LONG for the next story to come out. When i first read twilight, i fell in-love with everything the book had to offer. When i was reading new Moon, i fell in-love more with the series! At first, i was devastated to find out the Bella and Edward where no more, but when she started to hang out with jake, i was happy for her, but confused. Yes, i did understand why she was devastated. in the back of my mind, i was just asking: Where did Edward go?
These books really get the minds thinking. between the huge mountian of suspense, romance, and fantasy. I would read any book that Stephinie meyer would right. I definently recommend this series alot!
Also, if you are interested in another author, i recommend Anette Curtis Klaus. The two books:
Blood and Chocolate
The Silver kiss
are not as good as The Twilight Series, but they still hold the suspense and romance that cusaes you to crave for more.
Twilght and New Moon are my absolute favorite books ever. Here is what I know about the future of Bella and Edward past New Moon and possible Eclipse and the mysterious ‘book four’ (which isn’t including Midnight Sun):
Bella will take Edward’s proposal more seriously.
Something will happed about the Carlisle/Edward dilemma for Bella and being bitten.
There will be more mention of Aro, Caius, and Marus; the Volturi.
Another [good] vampire will come into the lives of Bella and the Cullens.

I want to recommend a series. A Great and Terrible Beauty and the sequel Rebel Angels is great for waiting out the Twilight continuals. The plots are very complicated so you can read it again and again it’s a very good book.

darkiel_91, you must read New Moon to find out. If any of us told you about such a key event in the story, it might ruin it for you. I will say this, Stephenie Meyer LOVES happy endings, so don’t stress out.

I love the way Stephenie sucks her reader into Forks. It is a truly seductive piece of literature that has made it onto my bedside table for constant rereadings. It is a very informative website with a lot of information on both books.
New Moon grabbed my attention even more than Twilight did. While Twilight was a story of love and the beginning of hope, New Moon was dark and edgy. I grew with Bella through her trials, and I feel like the ending let my heart beat again.

Dissapointed by New Moon? Impossible! New Moon is a well-written story (In my opinion. Don’t you agree?) Anyway, Stephanie Meyer is a good storyteller. I’m sure that Stephanie Meyer can make the readers mad with her 3rd book, Eclipse!
Readers should pay tribute to Stephanie Meyer because of creating wonderful & attracting characters (and story, too).

I LOVED this book! Stephanie Meyer……..you are the best auther anywhere in the world! You have a way of explaing the characters, what their doing, what their saying, that just blows my head off! I couldn’t help myself from crying in both books, Twilight and New Moon. I COULDN’T BELEIVE THAT EDWARD LEFT! But, when he came back, I was SO happy! I can’t wait to find out what happens to Bella and Edward, (obviosusly, they stay together!) All I can say is, “Edward, you better bite Bella soon!” I can’t wait for all of the novels, especially Midnight Sun! Twilight from Edwards view! I read the first chapter online, and it was amazing! My ONLY consolation is that I only have to wait 1 year Eclipse, (even though that seems like an eternity).
One Last Thing, I couldn’t believe that Edward was about to do that to himself! I was SO happy that Bella made it there in time! But what edwarddid, that shows True Love; and Stephanie is SO good at describing it!

Heloo…well like all of u guys I am a big twilight fan and I am about to read new moon which, by the way, I am waiting for impatiently, (since my friend is not done with it!) I am in love with edward cullen (sigh* who isn’t?) which makes it all the more crucial that if they are to make a move on twilight, they get the actors RIGHT, well at least edward, (I don’t think I can take another devestating blow such as the one I suffered with the cast of Eragon) I wanted to simply suggest an actor, but since I don’t know where to sumbit a suggestion I’ll just do it here and hope that all you fans who are in love with edward hear my plea and help me find a place to suggest an actor for edward. oki so while i was reading Twilight/New Moon i was listen to the Shiny Toy Guns CD “We Are Pilots” and to me it felt like it was the soundtrack and i was wondering if you could listen to the CD & what you think..i like the play list for the movie now but i think that at least 1 song from “We Are Pilots” should be in the movie! its a really great CD

I have a question for Mrs. Meyer…In New Moon, it was revealed that Bella was invulnerable to the Volturi’s “special abilities” which somewhat justifies why Edward can’t read her mind. However, in Twilight, Jasper was able to manipulate Bella’s emotions/ mood. I can understand how Alice can see Bella in her visions – it’s visions of the future. But Jasper? And I am begging you, Mrs. Meyer, not to say that all will be explained in Eclipse. I just can’t figure it out and the question is becoming a bit more of an annoyance to me.
I know who should play Edward. STEVEN STRAIT. He is pefect. He was in The Covenant as the main character, Caleb. He portrays a mythical being with such ease, i think he might actually have a little in him. 😉 haha. My friends who have read the book agree. Watch The Covenant, and you will think so too, i am pretty sure. ANDDD… in The Covenant, he has a silver car. =D Granted, it’s a Mustang and not a Volvo, but still.

i dont see Jacob bad or mean at all. he sounds nice and cute and i like guys that are taller than me…..but i would probably go with Edward because he seems the same and i like how he would be taller (i think, he has to be taller than 5 foot 1.) and older than me (if i was Bella’s age)way but would get a temper sometimes.

I went to stephenie meyer’s website once and she had all the extra stories. They were mainly other people’s point of views. they were great. It also had edward’s view during his absence in New Moon. I thought that was good.

hey everyone! gosh so many people love this book, they absolutely HAVE to make it into a movie with this many fans. i live in oz and i called up my local angus & robertson bookstore today an they told me they dont have new moon in cos there was a problem with the publishing or something and it wont be in til MAY. it is like feb now, i absolutely cannot wait this long. does anyone know how i can get it sooner?

You know how in the end of New Moon, we found out that Bella couldn’t be changed because it would break the treaty?
Well, on page 126 of Twilight, when Jacob is telling Bella the stories of the tribe, at the end he says, “Well, I guess I just broke the treaty.”

I love these books! I have taken them out of the library three times, and each time I have forced myself to return them. I think what I love best about Edward is the style in which he talks. Boys don’t have those 19th century manners anymore, and that’s what I like about a guy. It makes me think about how much things have changed, and it really depresses me that
A) Edwards doesn’t really exsist (Thought I wish he did!)
B) I am not Bella
C) I do not live in Forks
D) I don’t intend to move anywhere, so I can’t follow the storyline a little and move to somewhere new and happen to find a person like Edward
E) I have to wait till August to get Eclipse
F) My mom probably won’t pre-order it for my birthday, so I’ll have to wait even longer.

I love twilight!!! On february 19, 2007 I began reading the Twilight series. Sinse then I have read twilight 43 times and New Moon 9 times. I guees you can tell which one I liked better (no offence anyone who loves New Moon more). Reading a book like that so many times is a big deal for me because I am only eleven years old. Twilight is my bible. I can’t wait until Eclipse comes out. I practically jump out of my seat when I think about it. Not a single person in my entire school calls me by my name anymore. They all call me “the girl with the book” or “Twilight girl”. I am utterly obsessed with it. But I am happy because I was successful in getting five people I know (including my therapist) to read the book. It is great to know that I am helping the world by telling them about it.

Holy crap! I just read both Twilight and New Moon in less then 2 days and i absolutly ADORE them. I don’t know if he is or not because when I went to your website, we didn’t really understand what you meant went you said that it was dissapointing that you might lose your perfect Edward, Henry Cavill. when we went on other websites they had said that Henry Cavill was going to play Edward, but then other sites said that he wasn’t. (PLEASE READ WHOLE THING BEFORE COMMENTING OR MAKING ANY DECISIONS) Well I read Twilight and I absolutely loved it!! You are a great author. While I was reading it a whole people asked me if it was my first time reading it. Yes. And everybody that I knew loved it, including me. But my close friends have only read the first one except for one who have read the first three, which is all she will read. I asked her why and she said it is because they are not very clean. Meaning with the hinting and things. So I decided not to read them so she gave me a summary of the two books. After she told them to me I understood why she won’t read anymore. I was hurt and my heart heavy. There is a great variety of people who reads your books. I guess it wouldn’t have hurt so bad if you weren’t a Mormon but you are. Please don’t become more of a worldly author. PLEASE WRITE YOUR STANDARDS IN YOUR BOOKS!!!!!!!!! It is very hard to read those type of books when you see and hear it all the time on tv and books. They don’t need to be added, even though they are great with vampires. The way you are writing is not very good, the things that you add anyway. I would love to see what you stood for in your books. Don’t lower your standards just so that people will read them.
Let me rephrase that. I know lots of people who would read them (feel more comfortable reading them) if you made the relationship between Bella and Edward less infatuation and close and not give hints that are a little too far out there. I definitley would read them, along with lots of others.

I hate reading? but when i first looked at these books i suddenly felt weird? like my emotions were changing? when a scene in the book was happy.. so was i? but when another scene in the book was depressing i grew depressed and angry? i cant understand how a book can have so much effect on someone? but i love the sensation! =] and Bella and Edward just remind me of my own life.. exepct not being immortal and everything… which would be totaly cool anyways…

I don’t know how I’m supposed to start this. I’m also not sure if you yourself will get this.
I have just now found out about your books. I’m currently reading the first, “twilight”, and I can’t seem to put it down. I’m naturally a slow reader and it takes me forever to finish a book. I stay up until 4a.m. every night trying desperately to read it. I read slow but not because I’m mentally slow, but because I can’t concentrate unless I take my time on something.
Your story is amazing. I love every word, paragraph and page. Edward is a great character, hard to imagine though. I tend to imagine him as someone completely different from what you described him as. Even though it’s a fictional story, I think of it as my point of view, i compare me with Bella and put myself in her place.
I feel that Edward is a great character and he definitely deserves his own story, from his point of view. I look forward to reading his version in “midnight sun”(yes, I read your web sight).
I tend to get to deep into things, and get totally obsessed with things. Though it takes me longer than other people, I hold the information longer and take things quite literally. I remember every line and every detail of that book. I’m 3/4 done with the book and I will return to reading it after I’m done commenting.
I love the way you write your stories, they are extremely real feeling. I know I’m a sap and I enjoy stories that constantly make me giggle and smile. Though I’m only 13 I tend to find myself jotting down ideas for short stories and lyrics to imaginary songs. I wish I could draw in readers and explain what I feel as well as you managed in your “series”. All of what I have read so far has that tone that makes you want to be that character, and find a meaning deep within your private life. You could make someone want to go to forks with this story (I doubt they will find an “Edward” anywhere in there though).
I hope this really does go to you because I love your story and your imagination. I will continue reading all of your books. Maybe perhaps not “the host”. But I love the fact that your book is constantly on my mind and I run every line through my head trying to find a deeper meaning to them. My favorite thing about your book is how real it sounds and feels, and how it constantly keeps you wondering, thinking, and smiling.
Please respond to this if you get it. I know you’re extremely busy, and that’s why I think you won’t get this yourself, personally.

Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory in two “Harry Potter”movies has joined the cast of Twilight, Summit Entertainment’s teen-vampire thriller.
Pattinson will play the role of Edward, a teenager who leads a double life as a vampire and becomes romantically involved with his nonvampire high school classmate Bella (Kristen Stewart).
I heard about the movie and I have a suggestion for who could play Edward if you havent found someone yet.
Hes canadian and i dont know if he can act but he is amazingly gorgeous and a total dream.

i’m pretty lucky. i was in wal-mart one day searching for something good to read something long enough to last me a weekend or so and i came across your book twilight i read just the inside cover and i was instantly hooked.PLease tell the director/producers to let you help with the casting. the girl they chose for bella is good stuff the guy hes okay (hes hot is what i mean) but………………….hes not edward but once again hs okay so just make it work and im sure it’ll work ou in the end
dont let the Directors/producers change the book a bit cause that would just ruin the feel of the movie/book like they did with eragon that was a total bummer the book was like totally better. if the movie has to be three or four hours long let it be we’ll sit through it cause we want to know if our doubts(the whole it won’t be the same if its a movie thing) were totally unnecasary.

I loved these books Ive read all three and the ending to the third one left me in tear. I was convinced it was the last of the series and its raeally hard to find books that make you cry and laugh out loud !
I LOVE the twilight series! It is so good that I bought it at the store at eight at night, then proudly and tiredly put it down completely finished at somewhere around two in the morning. After that I felt to rushing back to the bookstore right then and buying both New Moon and Eclipse right then, till I realized that it was two in the morning and the bookstore would not be open. The next day I got New Moon but my parents wouldent buy me Eclipse because they said that buying both of them was too expensive. I managed to beg enough for the book that I had the series read in around a week. I have no idea what I am going to do to keep myself patient all the way until August 2!!! it seems so far away. 😦 i feel like i am going to die of anticipation!

I absolutely loved Twilight but I wasn’t that big of a fan with this book. I hated how Edward and the rest of the Cullens weren’t in most of the book. I actually skipped about 100 pages in the middle because I got so bored with Bella and Jake. I’m not so sure that I’ll like the 3rd and 4th books because I heard that part of them was written from Jake’s point of view. I actually think that if she’s going to write it from a different point of view, it should be Edward’s.

You do not even know how much I love twilight! Nothing compares better to the book mabye the movie but they are both amazing! I’m on Eclipse right now and boy its good! I think that New Moon was pretty good. I just started in the car and I sort of liked how it started as a dream with her deceased grandmother. But it is like saying, her grandmother is her reflection in the mirror, and since she has one, and Edward does not, then well, read it! I also am kind of – well I do not want to say I have a feeling of creep but Bella is older than Edward, and that is kind of gross.
I really liked the book and I am now hooked just hope that the movie is half as good as the book =)
